Gurten, April 26th trip

I forgot to write about our trip to Gurten in April. We went here the second weekend I moved here.

The Gurten is Bern's local mountain. It's actually very close to our house, this is a picture I took of it two blocks from our house.

It's close but the Aare River is in-between us and the Gurten so I'm not sure how quickly we could walk there. I would like to run up it one day. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the trail up the Gurten is .86 miles long. But the trail is used for mountain bikers and I don't want to get in their way. I would just assume there is a small running path somewhere on the mountain too.

There's also a music festival at the top in mid July. We did not get tickets for this year. The only way to get to the top (besides walking) is via the Gurtenbahn funicular. I can't imagine thousands of people waiting to get up and down the mountain. There are two funiculars and each one holds 120 passengers. I would guess it takes 25 minutes to load passengers, travel to the top, unload and get back down. Maybe next year we can skip the line and walk to the top.

We drove about 10 minutes to Wabern. Parked and took the Gurtenbahn to the top. We took Tucker and dogs have to pay to ride trains/funiculars/buses in Switzerland. He pays the rate of a child's ticket. At the top there's a couple of restaurants, Frisbee golf, grills for picnics, a 25 meter viewing tower, trails and a pretty impressive kids play area.

It was cloudy so the pictures are not great, we will have to go back on a sunny day.

The viewing tower, I only made it up halfway. I hate heights.
