Lauterbrunnen, May 18th trip

Mike and I got back from Mexico late Saturday evening, and on Sunday we decided to make a trip to Lauterbrunnen. Kennels are closed on Sundays so we couldn't pick up Tucker until Monday, no puppy on this trip. Lauterbrunnen is a quick 45 minute  drive south along Lake Thun (another place we want to visit). This place is filled with English speakers; tourists and employees all speak English. It's weird to be 15 minutes off the highway in a small town and hear English. Lots of tour groups come hear, but I don't think they take away from the charm of the town. Just watch out for their large buses on the small streets. Switzerland roads are not made for tour buses.

The Lauterbrunnen Valley is made up of Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Gimmelwald, Stechelberg and Isenfluh, with several other small villages surrounding them. I know at least two of these villages do not allow cars and you have to access the city by cable car. I love cable cars! Lauter Brunnen translates to "many fountains", this is the perfect name as the valley has 72 waterfalls. Waterfalls, cable cars, wooden houses, mountains and cows....all things I love and that's why I love this place so much.

Lauterbrunnen is a great central starting point for trips up the Jungfra, Schlithorn, paragliding and hiking in any of the villages in the valley. If anyone visits us, we will probably take you here.
The waterfall is Staubbach Falls. The water falls 300 meters and is one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe

Mike and I stayed at this hotel 3 years ago. The Staubbach Hotel has the best view of the falls. Get a room facing the falls, with a balcony and you'll be set.

This was a quick trip, we just wanted to scout out the area for a video we wanted to make in a couple of weeks. In the short time we were there we did watch a man park on an incline, forget to put his emergency brake on (he must of had a manual car), and then it slowly roll backwards, picking up speed until it hit a parked car, went down a ditch and stop on the side of a house. Everyone in the parking lot was shocked, by the time Mike and I realized no one was driving the car it was too late. Poor guy...remember if you visit a hilly country use your emergency brake, even with an automatic.
