Fondue Igloo, January 2015

Hello! Wow it has been a long time. But I have a few days off work so I am hoping to get  all caught up with our doings and my makes. So here goes, let's rewind to January.

One thing you can't do in the States is have a cheese fondue in a real igloo. I found this igloo online and we made a trip for lunch. I wasn't expecting too much, but the igloo really blew my expectations out of the water. It was pretty nice,

We drove 45 minutes to Adelboden and took a cable car up to the top of the mountain. The igloo is the largest igloo restaurant in Europe. It can hold 200 people, and has 8 rooms. They are closed every Monday and Tuesday for maintenance, and obviously only open during the coldest months December -April.

We had a cheese fondue and Glühwein. Glühwein is hot wine mixed with spices (also called mulled wine). It is an acquired taste. I hated it at the beginning of winter, but by the end I started to enjoy it.

It was not a clear day, but it was still beautiful. We had a good time. Once a year they have an ice sculpture contest. It is amazing what people can make with ice.  They also have skiing on the mountain. We will definitely go back next year, and hopefully eat in the private dining room.

A private room. So romantic.
